Epic Alarm installs high-quality alarm systems for homes and businesses, designed to provide the best security and convenience. A common question we receive is whether the entry and exit delays can be adjusted. While modifications are possible, we do not recommend changing these settings as they are carefully configured for optimal performance.

What Are Entry and Exit Delays?

Every Epic Alarm system is pre-configured with the following default settings:

  • Entry Delay: 60 seconds
  • Exit Delay: 60 seconds

Entry Delay

The entry delay is the amount of time you have to disarm your alarm system after opening a door before the alarm sounds. It helps prevent false alarms while giving authorized users enough time to input their code.

Exit Delay

The exit delay gives you a set period to leave the premises after arming the system. This prevents accidental alarms when leaving the property.

Why We Recommend Keeping Default Settings

Although adjustments can be made, we strongly advise against modifying entry and exit delays for the following reasons:

  1. Increased Security Risks

    • Extending the entry delay allows intruders more time inside before triggering an alarm, delaying emergency response.
    • A longer exit delay may lead users to believe they have more time to leave, potentially leaving the system vulnerable.
  2. False Sense of Security

    • Shortening the delays too much can cause unnecessary alarms, while extending them too long can delay emergency notifications.
  3. Industry Best Practices

    • The default settings strike a balance between convenience and security, ensuring quick alarm activation in case of unauthorized entry while allowing users a reasonable time to disarm the system.

Best Practices for Managing Entry and Exit Delays

To maximize security and convenience:

  • Familiarize yourself with the delay timers so you can enter and exit efficiently.
  • Ensure all users (family members, employees) know how to quickly disarm the system upon entering.
  • Use remote disarming options through the Epic Alarm mobile app for added flexibility.

How to Adjust Entry and Exit Delays (If Necessary)

If you still wish to modify your delay settings, follow these general steps:

  1. Access your alarm panel settings by entering the master code.
  2. Navigate to the delay settings under "System Configuration."
  3. Adjust the entry and/or exit delay time as needed.
  4. Save changes and test your system to ensure proper functionality.
