All CollectionsGeneral QuestionsWhat Is an Abort Code (Verbal Passcode) and Why Does Epic Alarm Require One?
Your Abort Code — also known as a Verbal Passcode — is an important part of your alarm system’s security.
It’s a word, number, or short phrase that verifies your identity when you speak with our monitoring center. What It’s Used For When your alarm is triggered, our 24/7 monitoring team will call to verify the alarm.
Before sharing details or canceling a dispatch, they’ll ask for your abort code to confirm they’re speaking with an authorized user.
This protects your account from unauthorized access and ensures accurate emergency response. Why It’s Important
Confirms your identity before any action is taken.
Prevents false alarms and unnecessary emergency dispatches.
Ensures your security and privacy when interacting with our monitoring team.
How to Choose a Good Abort Code
Use something easy to remember but not easily guessed (avoid “1234" or your address).
It can be a word, number, or phrase up to 10 characters.
Keep it consistent among all authorized users on your account.
When You’ll Use It You’ll be asked for your abort code when:
The monitoring center calls after an alarm activation.
You call to cancel a false alarm.
You reach out after hours for account or service verification.
